CenterPoint’s Basics Workshops

These introductory workshops are an excellent opportunity for people considering therapeutic bodywork as a career or for those who enjoy working on family and friends.

Learn simple, yet effective techniques to help relax, relieve stress and deal with common ailments. CenterPoint faculty teach all of these 6 hour workshops.

All instructors are CenterPoint Faculty and are nationally certified by the National Certifying Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) or the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), and/or are active members of the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies from Asia (AOBTA), or the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).


Aromatherapy Basics #713

Are you interested in aromatherapy, but don’t know where to start? This course provides the foundational information and skills you need to understand how and why essentials oils work. You will learn the key concepts needed to use oils safely and effectively, save money and help your family and friends with natural health options. You will discover the basic application methods used in aromatherapy including how to use a diffuser and how to make sprays, inhalers, salts and topical blends.

In this course you will learn:

  • Essential Oil Basics – what, why and how they work
  • Safety guidelines for using essential oils
  • About quality, storage and uses of essential oils

This course is a wonderful introductory course for anyone looking to integrate the use of aromatherapy into their everyday life.

Instructor: Jodi Baglien, NCTMB. Jodi is a CenterPoint Graduate who blends her expertise as a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist, Shiatsu Therapist, Healthcare Consultant, Educator and business owner, with her passion for spiritual awareness and well being. Jodi creates and implements aromatherapy training and presentations for Senior Care facilities, VA hospitals, and numerous Holistic Health practices and holistic conferences. Jodi is currently the Director of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists and Owner of “jodi baglien well being + wisdom studio”.

The Spring Equinox is an inspirational time of progress and new growth. The seeds planted today bring the transformation of tomorrow. Celebrate the spring of your renewal with Qigong movements to embody the changes of this time. Set intentions for growth and use the available energy to blossom a bright future.

Participants create a personal talisman representing their gratitude and personal growth intentions for the upcoming season. Celebrate the concept that the past supports the present, which creates the future. You will leave this class feeling grounded, peaceful and inspired.

No previous qigong or meditation experience is necessary, all are welcome!

Instructor: Andrea Sullivan, Cert ABT, AOBTA, NCTMB, ABMP. Andrea graduated from CenterPoint’s Shiatsu Therapy Program in 2005. She is certified in Chi Nei Tsang, having studied with the Universal Healing Tao School in Thailand with Grand Master Mantak Chia. She practices Tai Chi and Qi Gong on a regular basis, and maintains a private bodywork practice. She teaches in CenterPoint’s Shiatsu Department and Supervises in CenterPoint’s Clinic.

For those who wish to practice natural healing at home with family, friends and self, Shiatsu Basics provides an ideal introduction. Participants learn simple yet effective finger pressure techniques to relieve and prevent chronic aches & pains and everyday ailments. Basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Qi, Yin/Yang, and Eight Principles) are taught to facilitate understanding of how and why Shiatsu works.

Learn basic Shiatsu techniques for the neck, back and feet. Discover how simple and effective Shiatsu therapy is for relieving headaches, backaches, stiff necks, and fatigue. Experience giving and receiving Shiatsu.

This American Heart Association First Aid course covers basic emergency response to respiratory failure, bleeding, poisoning, shock, burns, broken bones, and more. The class consists of demonstration and class participation to learn the techniques. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive the American Heart Association Adult First Aid certification. The certification is valid for two years from the date of the course.

This American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR course teaches basic life support techniques to use on adults. The class consists of demonstration and class participation to learn the techniques. In addition to learning CPR for adults and children, you will by certified to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive the American Heart Association Adult CPR certification. The certification is valid for two years from the date of the course.

Caring for Loved Ones at the End of Life #747

We all face the unthinkable when someone we love hears the words “incurable,” “terminal,” or “no further treatment.” Whether your loved one is cared for in a facility or at home, you can have positive impact on them. In this course, you will learn how to support your loved one, both emotionally and physically in this time of need.

Participants will learn:

  • Simple hands-on massage techniques to bring comfort to loved ones at end of life
  • Household hacks that make caring for someone easier
  • An overview of hospice care and how to get the most out of their services
  • Emotional self-care techniques to help you care for yourself as you care for others
  • What to expect in the final hours

This course is a helpful introduction to caregiving and provides participants with the tools they need to safely and compassionately care for others in need. Take this course to help bring comfort to those you love in their final hours.

Instructor: Theresa May, NCTMB, APP., has been practicing and teaching massage and bodywork techniques since 2001. She attended the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Scottsdale, Arizona where she became a teacher and administrator. Her areas of expertise include aromatherapy, reflexology, spa techniques, lymphatic drainage massage, prenatal massage, craniosacral, and therapeutic modalities. Using all of these techniques, she has created protocols for working with Parkinson’s disease, stroke and cancer patients, and for those at the end of life. She teaches Foot & Hand Reflexology and Craniosacral Techniques at CenterPoint.
