CenterPoint’s Basics Workshops

These introductory workshops are an excellent opportunity for people considering therapeutic bodywork as a career or for those who enjoy working on family and friends.

Learn simple, yet effective techniques to help relax, relieve stress and deal with common ailments. CenterPoint faculty teach all of these 6 hour workshops.

All instructors are CenterPoint Faculty and are nationally certified by the National Certifying Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) or the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), and/or are active members of the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies from Asia (AOBTA), or the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

This class is an interactive experience into the qualities of the Five Elements and their mental and spiritual strengths. Five Element Qigong exercises are used to restore health, balance the emotions, and empower you to tap into your greatest potential. Weekly, you will explore each element, it’s practices, organ system emotions, and function. The Qigong movements use breath-work to generate energy and circulate it in the meridians and organ systems to increase vitality.

Enroll in Five Element Qigong and you receive a handbook to support your personal practice with reflective exercises to learn the depth of your elemental aspects.

Health is possible at every age and these movements can be done by all skill levels and body types. Continued practice of Qigong cultivates healing and increases longevity.

The fall equinox is a time of harvest and a time of reflection upon our achievements. The equinox provides us the opportunity for introspection and letting go of any challenges of the previous season. Through qigong and musically guided meditation, you identify and reflect upon the wonderful gifts of the summer season and set intentions of personal growth for the upcoming fall. Participants create a personal talisman representing their gratitude and personal growth intentions for the upcoming season. Celebrate the concept that the past supports the present, which creates the future. You will leave this class feeling grounded, peaceful and inspired.

No previous qigong or meditation experience is necessary, all are welcome!

Have you ever wondered how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) works? TCM includes a complete science of the physiology of the body and the relationship between the organs and the musculature of the body. The theory of TCM includes the principles of the Five Elements in nature and Qi as the vital force. The qualities of the primary organs of the body share the same qualities and function as the Five Elements. This course will demystify how shiatsu practitioners assess your symptoms. Attend this basic workshop to experience the science of TCM and the wisdom and effectiveness of Shiatsu Anma therapy.

Have you ever played with foam rollers? Foam rolling is a inexpensive and effective way to ease away muscle tension, promote mobility, loosen muscle tissue, and decrease recovery time after work outs. Foam rollers are used for self-mysofacial release, a technique that helps to loosen fascial tissue, a thin layer of connective tissue surrounding muscles.

In this class, you experience and learn:

  • foam roller techniques to target specific muscle groups
  • how to use your foam roller as a tool for stretching
  • techniques for mobility and strengthening
  • the importance of rest and recovery through foam rolling

This is a great experiential class for those new to foam rolling and those with experience. Take Foam Roller Boot Camp to take your self-care to the next level.

Instructor: Nicole Kilgo, B.S., D.C., received her Bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism from St. Cloud State University in 2007 and then her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in 2010. The Tai Chi Single Fan routine is a graceful and strengthening form of martial arts and dance from the Chen style of Tai Chi Chuan. It utilizes meditative movements that can be applied as a style of self defense and has healing benefits to energize the body and calm the mind. Each movement develops mindfulness and strengthens the mind-body connection.

Tai Chi produces and collects energy in the internal organs to improve longevity, mental clarity, physical agility and strength, and to reduce stress. Regular practice can also help to resolve health issues such as arthritis, back pain, insomnia, and digestive issues. Tai Chi Fan Form encompasses the essential movements of all Tai Chi forms. Each class includes warm-ups, Qigong exercises, Tai chi posture review, refinements, and additions to the form. All skill levels are welcome!

In this course, you learn how to:

  • Connect with local foods and markets
  • Respect the seasonality of foods year-round
  • Choose specific foods to foster a seasonal and healthy connection to your diet
  • Feed yourself and your family in a healthy, nutritious, and pleasurable way

Wellness is a byproduct of a healthy approach to food. Everyone can benefit from connecting with their food through mindful eating. Sample recipes will be provided.

Instructor: Ramon Carrion. Growing up in Spain, Ramon developed a passion for food from his mother, who knew how to feed her whole family with healthy, homegrown food. Ramon obtained certifications in nutrition and holistic health therapy from Stonebridge Associate College in London. Ramon moved to Minnesota in the fall of 2016, and now manages Ruf Acres Farm and is the project manager at the Ruf Acres Market, both located in Faribault. He serves on the board of directors for the Minnesota Heath Finders Collective.

Looking for the perfect Valentine’s day gift? This is the class for you! CenterPoint is partnering with Lunds & Byerly’s to provide you with the perfect pre-valentines day date night. The evening will begin at CenterPoint with a two hour workshop for couples to learn and practice basic principles and applications of massage. Participants will then go over to Lunds & Byerly’s tasting room (St. Louis Park) to sample a delicious selection of wines.

Together you and your partner will learn:

  • The five Swedish massage strokes and how and when to use them
  • Basic principles around pressure, depth and touch
  • A simple sequence for relaxation massage

No knowledge of anatomy is required, only a desire to give and receive feedback of what feels good to you. This class is the Valentines Day present that will keep on giving!

Instructor: Krisha Crabtree, B.A., NCTMB. Krisha Crabtree has a BA in Psychology with dance and English minors from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN (1993). She has been a massage therapist since 1997, when she attended Northern Lights School of Massage Therapy. Krisha is certified in NeuroMuscular Therapy, and has been an instructor at CenterPoint from 2001-2005 and from 2012 to the present. Her teaching style uses humor and analogy to make things easy to understand.
