Take Care of Yourself First So You’re Able To Take Care of Your Clients

Injuries can happen with massage therapists, because it’s a job that requires stamina, physical flexibility, and mental work.  As the area’s leading massage school,  we’ve learned that self-care is a key ingredient in having a long career as a massage therapist or bodywork professional. You need to pay attention to your nutrition and hydration and make sure you get enough exercise and sleep. Being reasonable about your work and how you schedule your day will make a difference; don’t over-book or over-work – your body needs time to rest. Ensure that massage is part of your own wellness routine. Also, commit to being a life-long learner.

One of the other important things is to make sure you receive regular massages yourself. You can also book massages at our student clinic at a reasonable price. Student clinic appointments are available Friday evenings and all day Saturday. To schedule an appointment call: 952-562-5200.

But injuries or aches will sometimes show up in spite of all we have done. The most common symptoms to pay attention to are:

  • Pain/aches/twinges
  • Inflammation or tenderness
  • Any loss of function of the part of the hand/arm
  • Any feeling of heaviness in a body part
  • Twitching movements
  • Weak muscles or fatigue
  • Numbness or tingling feelings

Even one of these symptoms is a reason to be concerned. If you have one or more of these symptoms where the ache is more than mild, try massage, and consider seeing your health care provider.

CenterPoint has a constant stream of continuing education classes that will aid you in continually learning new modalities and/or techniques using your arms, wrists, and hands.
